The primary functions of collection of customs duties, prevention of smuggling and tax evasion and enforcement of border control measures are being carried out by the Delhi Customs Zone, keeping in mind the government’s policy directions of enhanced trade facilitation for the genuine trade and industry by using modern risk based management systems and non-intrusive examination techniques with the objective of providing ease of doing business. The Trade Facilitation Agreement of the W.T.O. ratified by our country makes Customs the pivot of hassle free cross border trade. Towards this end, the policy initiatives for reduction of dwell time of cargo by measures such as Single Window Interface for Facilitating Trade (SWIFT), reduced documentation, deferred payment of customs duties, 24x7 clearances and other automated business processes are being put to use by Delhi Customs Zone for facilitating the import and export trade. Similarly, increasing use of risk based passenger profiling and the use of social media platforms for creating awareness about eligibility and entitlements of the international arriving and departing passengers is being ensured at IGI Airport with regard to the customs clearance of passengers and baggage. The courier clearance at the New Courier Terminal has been taken up on electronic mode. Delhi Customs endeavors service delivery with minimum human interface.
